About me
Tiken is an educator with District of Columbia Public Schools and currently teaches third grade at Janney Elementary School. A recipient of the 2022 Standing Ovation Excellence in Teaching Award, Tiken is passionate about building thoughtful, inclusive classroom communities where students feel seen, heard, and empowered to grow. Rooted in a teaching philosophy that values discussion, curiosity, and reflection, Tiken creates spaces where students can engage in meaningful conversations, explore different perspectives, and thoughtfully navigate difficult topics with empathy and respect.In addition to serving as a Curriculum Coach focused on diversity and inclusion, Tiken has been involved in DCPS’s Becoming Initiative, supporting efforts to shift school culture toward restorative practices and stronger student-centered communities. Having called Washington, DC home for the past 13 years, Tiken brings both deep community roots and a love of lifelong learning to education. Outside the classroom, Tiken is an avid lover of musicals and can often be found enjoying live theater across the city.
