Alexandra "Alex" Smith is an accomplished educator whose career is rooted in her heart of hearts as a classroom teacher. For twelve years, she taught English at the National Cathedral School, where she also coordinated Professional Development and chaired the English department, demonstrating her commitment to educational excellence and faculty growth. For four years, Alex served as the Head of Middle School at Stone Ridge School, where she co-led the school's AI task force, embracing innovation while maintaining pedagogical integrity. In July 2024, she began a new chapter as Assistant Head of School for Academics at The Potomac School, where she continues to expand her educational leadership. Alex finds profound joy in supporting the growth of students, teachers, and parents. She firmly believes in the transformative powers of inquiry and creativity in education. Her approach to leadership combines academic rigor with compassionate guidance, creating environments where learning thrives. Beyond her professional responsibilities, Alex maintains a rich personal life. She loves performing and listening to music, diving into good books, and cherishing time with her family. These pursuits not only provide balance but also inform her holistic approach to education. This year, Alex will serve as a Fellow at the Washington International School Summer Institute for Teachers (WISSIT), where she will contribute to and learn from a community of innovative educators committed to advancing teaching practice.
